Sourced from Hollander & de Koning, a sixth-generation, family-owned shellfish operation in Bar Harbor, Maine, these Dutch-style mussels are cultivated with unmatched care and tradition.
Using a time-honored method developed in Holland centuries ago, mussels are grown through sustainable bottom culture—starting with wild seed naturally collected and carefully replanted in optimal aquaculture sites. These locations are selected for ideal water flow, depth, and seabed conditions, ensuring the mussels receive a constant, nutrient-rich food supply.
Over a slow, natural growth period of approximately 2½ years, the mussels develop exceptional size, texture, and flavor.
Harvested using specialized shallow-draft vessels and custom equipment designed to protect the seabed, each batch is handled with precision. Mussels are then thoroughly cleaned, graded, de-bearded, and purged to ensure a pristine, ready-to-cook product.
